a carefully posed
set of glasses
pen
between fingers
ink that spills
from grizzled
mouth-
corners
oh you must be a ship
in rough
sailors about
to
cast themselves
on the mercy
of a fevered
quatrain

i put “quotes”
around words
make the technique
“ours”
a disconnected but
weighty metaphor
so much depends
on it
the hips of it
swing &
awake some quivering
expectation
but no
the baby turns blue
& just like
that…
more than that
i want to speak with my own voice
not some pastiche
thesaurus the point home
i sew those seven poets to my chest
their tiny hands write things and i
copy them
down:
more than [refer to the external]
i want to [metaphor]
not [exotic word]
[aren’t you clever]
don’t like circling the block
dancing round shrubbery ablaze
don’t want to be the electron
everywhere and nowhere on the double
like to be scalable
(conventional footnotes)
want to write with stationary
concrete authentic fiction
want glass bones like birds
don’t want opaque horizons
This week’s Poetisphere/Poets101 Poet Of The Week is none other than Katy Acheson of Something Katy.
Go therefore and read poems.
Yes! It’s that time again: the Poetisphere Poet of the Month has once again dropped like a ball from heaven.
I encourage you to all go and check http://feithline.com/journal/ out. Stay for a while. Make some comments. But most of all enjoy
dan (PPOW!)
That’s right… you heard me. Andrew is our poet of the week! Check out danweasel.com (click here) to find out what I’m talking about, and Poetisphere (click here) for a better idea of what we’re doing here.
